Unexpected Gifts in the Post

Feeling sheepish

Anyone who knows Hannah and me will realise that shopping for clothes doesn’t feature amongst our hobbies. In summer we’re normally clad in scruffy shorts and ancient T-shirts. In winter we move into ancient thermal jodhpurs (complete with moth holes) and fleeces. When it gets really cold, we stick our overalls on top of the whole ensemble.

The photos illustrating the first few Blog posts show us in our brand-new overalls which Annie has embroidered with our Foxglove Farm logo. Besides running a boarding cattery and learning to be smallholders, our other day job is personalising gifts and we have an industrial embroidery machine as well as a host of other machines to provide homeware, clothing and baby gifts for our shop.

Annie’s main tactic when clothes shopping is to dash into one of a very few clothes shops that cater for ladies with shapeless figures, grab a handful of identical items in different colours, pay up and rush back to the car. This process is carried out twice a year at the absolute outside. It was, therefore, very impressive when a parcel turned up today from Ryedale Clothing containing two tops for Annie which were a) exactly the right size and b) she loved.  So, a big thank you to Tony, who must surely have broken something and not ‘fessed up … or perhaps he just wanted to buy himself a fleece-lined winter shirt and thought he’d better pop in a couple more things so that he didn’t have to pay for postage? When all’s said and done, he is a Yorkshireman, and likes to remain true to his core values so saving money is normally at the top of his list!
